Description of animal husbandry provided in the study:

"male E3L.CETP mice on a C57Bl/6 background (Westerterp et al., 2006) were used, housed under standard conditions in conventional macrolon cages (two to four mice per cage, wood dust bedding) with free access to food and water.At the age of 8–10 weeks, mice were fed a semisynthetic Western-type diet, containing 0.25% (wt/wt) cholesterol,1%(wt/wt) corn oil, and14%(wt/wt) bovine fat (Hope Farms, Woerden, The Netherlands) for 4 weeks in three independent experiments. The institutional Ethical Committee on Animal Care and Experimentation of TNO-Quality of Life approved all experiments (permit number DEC2483)."
